These classes are a great way for families to get to know the temple, meet new people and begin to build a relationship with the Temple Emanu-El family. Classes for students grades 3-6 range take place twice a week, on Sunday and one week day, and include religious studies as well as instruction in reading Hebrew. Seventh grade meets one day midweek. During these years, students and their families have the opportunity to participate in a number of special programs including trips, services, fairs and holiday meals as well as receiving excellent pre-bar/bat mitzvah instruction. Registration for youngsters in grades three through seven does require temple membership.EIGHTH THROUGH TWELFTH GRADES
An exciting, new curriculum and program is being offered for young teens in the eighth and ninth grades. The 8th grade currently meets on Thursday nights from 5:30-7:15 and includes a delicious dinner. The 9th grade currently meets on Sunday morning. The 8th and 9th grade is open to all students whose families are currently members of a temple or synagogue. Confirmation takes place in 10th grade. Students study with the rabbi and participate in a RAC trip. The religious school experience culminates in 11-12th grade post-Confirmation classes.
SPECIAL NEEDSTemple Emanu-El prides itself in being friendly, open and flexible and our doors are open to families whose children have special needs. There is a certified special education teacher on staff who is available to assist in curriculum modification and provide support to families and teachers so that the needs of a wider range of children can be met. On Sunday there is also a self-contained class for students with special needs.
